Muntu Urges Kasese to Vote Rule of Law, Accountable Leadership

The Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) presidential candidate, Gen. Gregory Mugisha Muntu, has called on voters in Kasese District to turn up in large numbers and participate peacefully in the forthcoming general elections, urging them to support leadership anchored in the rule of law and accountable governance.

Campaigning at Maliba Kyanya Town Council, Gen. Muntu said Kasese’s vast mineral wealth has for years failed to translate into tangible benefits for local communities due to poor management, corruption and lack of transparency.

He pledged that an ANT-led government would put in place clear systems to ensure that minerals are exploited sustainably and transparently, for the direct benefit of Ugandans.

“Kasese is blessed with enormous mineral resources, but these resources have not helped our people because of poor leadership and corruption. Under ANT, minerals will be managed transparently so that jobs are created and communities benefit,” Muntu said.

He emphasised that responsible mineral exploitation would spur employment, strengthen local economies and contribute to national development without degrading the environment.

The ANT flag bearer also accused the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) of weakening cultural, religious and civil society institutions through political interference, arguing that this has undermined social harmony and accountability.

“When cultural, religious and civil society institutions are interfered with, society loses its moral and social anchors. We shall restore their independence because strong institutions are the backbone of a stable and democratic country,” Muntu noted.

Gen. Muntu further warned against voter intimidation and alleged vote rigging ahead of the January 15 general elections, calling on citizens not only to cast their ballots but also to safeguard their votes.

“Your vote is your power. Come out in big numbers, vote peacefully and protect your vote. Do not allow intimidation or manipulation to deny you your constitutional right,” he said.

ANT National Mobiliser Winnie Kiiza, who accompanied Muntu on the campaign trail, echoed the call for vigilance and mass participation, urging voters in Kasese to embrace change through democratic means.

“The future of this country depends on citizens standing firm and choosing leaders who respect the rule of law. We urge the people of Kasese to vote and ensure their voices are heard,” Kiiza said.

Throughout his campaign in the Rwenzori sub-region, Gen. Muntu has consistently advocated for inclusive leadership, restoration of the rule of law and rebuilding public trust in both state and non-state institutions, which he says are critical for sustainable development and national unity.
